development targeted and shipped on a Windows CE touch screen computer. Now
hosted on Windows XP and 7. Designed all aspects of the user interface.
Implemented everything from serial port communication with the device, to
algorithms that control what the machine does, to the user interface. Worked
closely with hardware and firmware developers to define the architecture of the
overall system. Software was written in C++ directly to the Windows API, using
Microsoft tools.

Designed and
implemented software for an experimental ultrasound device. The Windows-based
software controls the device via a protocol communicated over an RS-232 line.
Part of the design spec was to produce a component that researchers could use
to write their own applications to drive the device. To that end the protocol
and all serial line communications were implemented in a COM object whose
interface is available to researchers. The other part of the spec called for an
application that could be used “off the shelf”, which I wrote as a front-end to
the COM object. Development was done in C++ using MS Visual C++, MFC and ATL.

Designed and
implemented software for an experimental device built to research the
possibility of artificially triggering the muscles of paralysis victims in
order to get behavior similar to natural muscle movement. The software
maintains a patient database in which it stores torque readings obtained from a
load cell. It tracks these measurements over time and compares torque patterns
produced by naturally stimulated muscles with torque patterns produced by
artificially stimulated muscles. Microsoft Access was the database platform and
the coding was done using Visual Basic.
