EXAMPLES OF EFFECTIVENESS…
Development of
Technical ManualsResearched and wrote technical reference manuals on operating system concepts for technical support staff.

OASIS DITA Learning Specialization Subcommittee
Represented Sun Microsystems in the creation of the OASIS learning specialization of DITA for learning content. Performed data modeling of training content to determine how it differs from general technical publications content. Particular focus was on chairing meetings about data modeling, markup and specification of content mastery assessments.

UNIX/Solaris Curriculum Development
Proposed, developed, implemented, and evaluated UNIX-based curriculum for UNIX and third-party application products. Developed dozens of operating system and network administration courses for four companies, including Sun Microsystems, Inc. Negotiated, contracted, and managed outside contractor-developed documentation. Recently focused on Solaris system and network administration and entry-level programming/IDE (Integrated Development Environment) training courses for both traditional classroom delivery and media-rich online instruction. Sun Up and Sun Stars awards winner (both awards are for top 5% performers at Sun Microsystems).

Content Management Systems
Conducted training, content analysis, data modeling, and oversaw vendor qualification and selection, system configuration, documentation, and training for a Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) learning specialization CMS for needs analysis, instructional design, training, and assessment content.
Database Curriculum Development
Designed, wrote, and taught lecture and hands-on courses and created technical documentation for relational database products including SQL query language, advanced SQL product internals, and a 4th generation language.
Internet/IT Curriculum Development
Trained instructors (train the trainer) on the use of curriculum materials. Taught customers, support call center personnel, marketing staff, and administrators a variety of software products, including Internet-based products, security products, mail/web/file servers, productivity software, and system and network administration software and procedures.
Instruction
Trained national education center instructors on products and use of curriculum materials. Taught in-house marketing staff and select customer groups about software products and system administration procedures.
Proposed, designed, and implemented a world-wide departmental Intranet Web site to facilitate communication and content storage for a curriculum development staff. Site also incorporated Java applets for business-based interactive elements.
Project Management and Team Leadership
Project led outsourced curriculum developers, internal product engineers, and multimedia specialists in support of product training. Project led team in analysis and design of CMS Extensible Markup Language (XML) data structures, Document Type Definitions (DTDs), storage provisioning, and secure access to the CMS.
