State University/Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring & Research
Center
1995 - 2002
Research into the environmental effects of the nuclear
waste storage facilities in New Mexico. Specific projects include
regional ground and surface water baseline studies for actinides
and heavy metals, air quality research, and contaminant transport studies in
ground water, surface water, air, and soil, and a baseline study for radiation
in soils (including NORM) near the WIPP site in Eddy County. There was
extensive use of MS Office, Access databases, Arc View, and AutoCAD Map, Sigma
Plot, Trimble GPS (Pathfinder) and Visual Basic programming. Responsible
for the integration of GPS, field and laboratory data into the GIS system,
interpretation of geological and meteorological data, data logger programming,
and the QC and interpretation of weekly water quality monitoring. Authored
quarterly and annual reports for the surface water and meteorological
monitoring programs and presented papers to stakeholders and professional
meetings.

Consultant
Areas Major
areas included Delaware Basin, Midland Basin and the Eastern Shelf areas of the
Permian Basin. Specific formations worked include the Wolfcamp,
Sprayberry, Canyon, Strawn, Morrow, and lower Paleozoic formations.
Additional areas included East Texas and the Gulf Coast, and Rocky Mountains
including the Overthrust, San Juan, Green River, Powder River and Williston Basins.
Retained by a major oil company to manage their West Texas operations,
conducted regional and prospect level projects including 2D and 3D seismic,
supervised well operations and seismic field crews, and collected and
interpreted core data.
Additional
Positions Held: Hunt Oil Company, The Superior Oil Company, BTA Oil Producers,
and Cities Service Company.
BUSINESS
CONTRIBUTIONS:
- Evaluated
geological and geophysical data over existing petroleum leases.
Recommended drilling exploratory and production wells. Designed
horizontal wells and recommended logging programs. Supervised
subcontractors during drilling. Result: The company
drilled several successful Barnett Shale wells and is actively acquiring
new leases in the area while planning additional wells.
- Evaluated
offshore oil lease before releasing the block. Re-interpreted seismic data
and recommended retaining the lease and drilling an exploratory
well. Result: The lease was retained and a successful
well was drilled. The platform is still in production and to date
the structure has produced over 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
- Evaluated
federal land lease for potential oil production using geology and
geophysical techniques. Located and interpreted commercially
available data and proposed drilling an exploratory oil well. Result:
company drilled a 17.5 million dollar well that closely matched my
predictions.
- Designed a
2D seismic field program to help a client assess over 10,000 acres of new
leases. Conducted field testing to obtain more precise data,
supervised field crews during data acquisition and process and assisted
the client with interpretation. Result: The client
drilled 10 successful wells during the initial stages of the project.

- Evaluated
geological and geophysical data over existing petroleum leases.
Provided geological support for and conducted initial studies of reservoir
simulation project. Recommended revised pattern of production and
injection wells through a program of new wells and workovers.
Supervised subcontractors during drilling. Result: A
tenfold increase in production for the field.
- Established
a system to assess and quantify potential and proposed lease
acquisitions. Developed a system to create a numeric score based on
current and potential assets. Result: The company now
uses my system to provide direction on new property acquisitions.
