Steyer Assoc., Bainbridge, WA - Programming
Writer May
2011 - Present
Documented
JavaScript and C# APIs on contract with the Windows Live Developer Content
team. The project involved two main tasks: authoring content and updating
metadata. For authoring, used the XMetal authoring system and Source Depot revision
control to write API reference content with full descriptions of code elements,
parameters, and return values. Updated XML metadata by detecting badly formed
XML tags or invalid/outdated values, then correcting them by directly editing
the XML. This required a thorough knowledge of the group's publishing schema based
on XLST.

Planned,
coordinated, and wrote system protocol documentation with the Windows Server
& Cloud Interoperability team. Documents described how software and
hardware components interoperate using technologies such as the Windows
operating system or Application Services such as COM+, transaction processing,
message queuing, web server (IIS), and web services (ASP.NET).

Writer Jan
2010 - Aug 2010
Designed
and created a developer documentation set from the ground up for the Messenger
Connect resource model, on contract with Windows Live Services team. The documentation
describes a REST web service programming model that enables partner
applications to access Windows Live Services. Services provide, for example, contacts
in a Hotmail address book, photos and videos on SkyDrive, and activities on
Live.com, or on other services such as Flickr, LinkedIn, or Facebook. Applications
access resources by making HTTP calls that send and receive XML data. The model
supports common data formats such as Atom and JSON.
When
the project began, Microsoft had no existing documentation for a REST
technology, so I designed a documentation format that would be understandable
to developers already familiar with REST web services, but that would also work
within Microsoft's style guidelines.
