privacy to health care patients as mandated by the federal government.
Lead
DBA
Lead
DBA/Manager of a team of five Database Administrators for a 4 Tera byte Billing
Database. Primarily responsible for
instance tuning, interfacing with clients and managing the DBA team.
Sr. Application Architect/Data Modeler/Developer
Modeled and
developed a Star Schema Data Mart for the State of Colorado to track Special
Education student data. The data mart
was loaded from a non-normalized OLTP application and required extensive ETL operations
to extract and load it into the Star Schema.
It has an Oracle 9i AS v.9.02/Struts 1.1/EJB Web Application front end
that was built on an Eclipse IDE with Ant and JUnit using XP Methodology. The Application is used to define reports for
the Data Mart and set up various summarizing definitions to be used with the
reports. It enables downloading of
reports and uploading of data into the Data Mart via the application front end.
Ported a BEA
Weblogic 6.0 J2EE application to track child nutrition data to an Oracle 9i
Application Server. This included
getting the application running on Weblogic 7.0 first so that the department
could review it for potential modifications.
Next was reverse engineering the Data Model and modifying it where
necessary to the client’s specifications.
I then rewrote all Weblogic and database specific code including
deployment descriptors, Struts code and EJBs to Oracle 9i App Server compatible
code. Next was debugging and
re-factoring the original code so that it worked. That involved rewriting several Servlets,
adding some custom tags and rewriting most of the Java Server Pages. It also involved debugging the Oracle Stored
Objects associated with the system. The
system has 965+ Java classes and 330+ Oracle Stored Objects.
Modeled and
developed a Data Mart Portal for the State of Colorado to allow the storage and
definition of multiple heterogeneous data sets that were downloaded from
mainframe applications and transformed into appropriate star schemas. The front end of the data mart was written in
Java Servlets/Java Server Pages. The
front end of the data mart allowed the definition of input/update web pages
that were dynamically created by the application. The Web front end allows for uploading and
downloading of both comma-delimited files and binary files (PDF, Word,
etc). The binary files were stored as
binary large objects (Oracle Blob). The
data sets were downloadable in comma-delimited format as well as binary
format. Administration of the
application was also handled through the same Web front end and featured the
ability to create users and assign them user privileges and privileges to
read-only or read-update data sets.
I also mentored
and held formal training classes for Colorado Dept. of Education IT personnel
in various facets of Data Modeling/Data Warehousing, Java, and Oracle J2EE
technologies.
Sr.
Application Developer/Architect
Designed and
developed an economic forecasting system at Sun Microsystems that uses
invoicing history from the education database to forecast quarterly revenue for
Sun Education in the Americas.
Designed and
developed a back-end server interface from an Education Ordering Database to
the Oracle General Ledger at Sun Microsystems.
The application was written in Java/JDBC/RMI/Java Mail API and included
an application to verify the information in the Orders themselves and another
application that pushed orders to the Oracle GL interface tables. The verification system included an interface
to Sun’s LDAP directories. The system is
able to bill $3 Million of orders per month without manual intervention and
saves Sun approximately $1.5 Million/year in previously lost charges. The automation also saves 40-person
hours/month in labor costs.
Sr. Application Architect/Data Modeler/Developer
Modeled and
developed a Supply Chain Management data mart for a major food manufacturing
company using Oracle Application Server.
The development included design of a system to import Transportation
rates from Spreadsheets returned from trucking vendors. The browser interface allowed Trucking System
administrators to verify, compare and negotiate trucking rates from various
vendors to choose the best rate available at any given point in time.
Sr. System Architect /Data Modeler/ Tech Lead
I modeled an
OLTP Relational Database for a Banking Compliance Software Firm that was
originally modeled as a very de-normalized Object Store Database. After modeling I helped redesign the J2EE
system used to access it and mentored the developers that were creating
it. The system uses Java Servlets, Java
Server Pages, Enterprise Java Beans (BMP), and JDBC to allow Service
Representatives to gather information from customers to fill out the
appropriate documents online and then print completed documents for signoff
after compliance verification is complete.
System
Architect/Data Modeler/Database Administrator
Modeled and Architected a Customer
Relationship Management System (CRM) using downloads from Enterprise Shared
Databases. The system uses Java
Servlets, Java Server Pages, Enterprise Java Beans, JDBC and a RightPoint
Campaign Server to present Intelligent Scripts to Service Representatives to
assist them with up-sell and cross-sell opportunities on inbound calls.
System
Architect/Lead Data Modeler/Lead Database Administrator
Lead Modeler and
Architect for eight different Data Warehousing projects at US West. Four of the Warehouses were Data
Mart/Operational Data Stores. Two of
them involved modeling databases for Work Effort for Professional Services. In all of these projects I was also the lead
physical database administrator. In five
of the cases I also architected and constructed Oracle Stored Procedures,
PL/SQL, PRO*C or HTML-CGI interfaces to access the database.
Lead
Data Modeler/Architect/Database Administrator
Lead Data
Modeler/Architect/DBA for a Service Order Entry GUI that was developed as a
Java Applet with JDBC database access to an Oracle Database where definitions
of pages used in the GUI were stored in a database and written to the screen
dynamically.
Lead
Developer/Database Administrator
GUI Project
Leader/Developer for a team customizing Telecordia’s Media Vantage
Modules. We developed an
L/C++ CGI
Intranet front end to access a DCE/Oracle Database application (ALOC/CNUM) that
was used to store service addresses and telephone numbers available for Qwest
Communications. I wrote two JAVA applications to assist in generating the C++
code necessary for the CGI piece of this application. One of the JAVA apps generated C++ classes
with constructors and assessor methods for private instance variables; another
JAVA app was used to convert HTML code into C++ methods callable in the
CGI. The second app was called by the
make file and allowed easier editing of the HTML files. Both of these apps saved us a remarkable
amount of time and money writing the C++ CGI.
I also modeled, designed and developed a HTML/C++ CGI Routing Table
Editor to allow System Administrators to configure a daemon used to allow the
HTML/CGI front end to communicate with various legacy and non-legacy
applications on the back end. I also set
up an Oracle Gateway to access legacy data in the DB2 databases. The final part of the project included
modeling and building a replicated database for read only access by reporting
applications.
Lead
Database Administrator/Lead Data Modeler
Lead DBA/Data
Modeler for an Enterprise Wide Customer Profile database that included multiple
smaller Data Mart Operational Data Stores that were accessed through PL/SQL
Stored Procedures.

and built the database and designed & built the “warehousing engine”. This application provided a back end to a
monthly forecasting model. It took the
monthly forecast and converted it into either an hourly, half-hourly or 15min
forecast spread over a month. I wrote
the application in a combination of Oracle PRO*C and Stored Packages.
