The following are actions that I undertook and/or
completed while in this position:
1) Supported Wellfleet router with Synoptic hub legacy
network as it interoperated with the Xylan ATM switched network.
2) Supported and upgraded the Xylan FDDI ring
Wellfleet router backbone.
3) Installed and supported 3M St. Paul campus
ATM/Ethernet data centers, core and user edge with PNNI, UNI, CIP and LANE
services at OC3 and OC12 speeds, with
10/100 Mbs Ethernet edge.
4) Created configuration templates and guides to
support rapid roll out of ATM Ethernet edge.
5) Developed full network NMS maps and trap reception
for 3M ATM network via Xylan's X-Vision, providing rapid fault isolation and
end-to-end troubleshooting of the network.
6) Developed and taught 3M-specific training classes
for the then new AOS product line; these classes included basic L2/L3 concepts
and AOS function plus configuration, and troubleshooting of 3M-specific designs
and deployed configurations.
7) Tools for analysis - Digital Lightwave ASA-312
SONNET-ATM-DS0-DS3 tester, Dolch DOS “Sniffer” with ATM pod, Windows Sniffer
Pro and Sniffer Pro remote, and the Network Instruments suite of packet capture
and analysis tools for network and applications troubleshooting.
8) Created
implementation drawings and documentation for core, aggregation, distribution,
and access layers in support of rapid deployment of converged infrastructure.
These drawings and documents where developed for both initial implementation
and long term support teams use.
9) Developed
project implementation checklists and project acceptance test plans for both
full site and closet by closet rollout activities.
10) Created
staging acceptance test plans for ease of implementation and customer sign off
of equipment prior to on–site installation.
11) Established
initial staging facility requirements, drawings, and designs. These actions
included preparation of detailed drawings of all staging equipment and punch
lists of required support equipment to create and support the planned ALU
Pittsburgh staging facility.
12) Developed the
site-survey strategy, rules, and check list to be used prior to implementation
to identify and mitigate issues related to closet and core activities.
13) Participated
in design discussions that will result in an entirely new voice/video/data
wired and wireless infrastructure and service capability for 3M. This new
infrastructure will include complete wired and wireless data/voice/video
networks using full optical at 1000/10000 Mbs speeds to transport network
services across the data centers. IP Ethernet frames will be switched and
routed at 100/1000/10000/20000 Mbs speeds. There will be an MPLS core with BGP
and ISIS as the IGP and OSPF in the campus aggregation and distribution
edge. All global voice/video/data
network services will be provided across the network implementing the following
technologies: VPRN/VPLS, IEEE 802.1s MSTP Layer 2 topology control, IEEE
802.3ad LACP link aggregations, IEEE 802.1q VLAN tagging and “QinQ” VLAN
stacking, RFC 3768 VRRP default gateway redundancy, QOS via Alcatel Intelligent
VLAN, 802.1p, and DifServ with DSCP mappings.
In cooperation with the 3M
network team the following
tasks were completed or are in progress:
1) Designed, deployed and supported the next
generation of 10/100/1000 Mbs capable Ethernet data centers.
2) Created configuration templates and guides to
support rapid roll out of the current Ethernet distribution and edge equipment,
then successfully deployed new 10/100/1000 Mbs Ethernet access gear in
approximately 30% of the legacy hub and ATM network on the way to full
deployment.
3) Worked with IP/VLAN and routing OSPF/BGP protocol
structures.
4) Provided network design configuration
troubleshooting support at all levels (single- and multi-tiered networks and
applications issues).
5) Designed, installed and troubleshot 802.1d legacy
STP, 802.1d 2004 RSTP topology control and VRRP router redundancy.
6) Designed, tested and deployed the 32bit Root Bridge
Priority’s in preparation for MSTP (802.1s) installation.
7) Designed, constructed and supported the 3M
Xylan/Alcatel lab and provided configuration troubleshooting, design and code
regression testing on site in the 3M lab facilities.
8) Supported the ATM CIP OC3/OC12 Veritas data backup
network and designed, created and deployed the new gigabit Veritas data backup
network.
9) Designed, constructed and tested network security
and hardening standards and configurations for deployment to all campus
equipment.
10) Member of the 3M Six SIGMA project teams that
looked into the support and deployment organizations and process flows to
determine best organizations and best practices.
11) Worked with and led projects with the 3M wide-area,
server, firewall, DHCP/DNS, wireless, data backup, security,
