Personal:
Currently
live in Costa Rica, and maintain a home in Montana, USA. I split my time
between these to locations. My home in Montana is Solar powered, and while in
Costa Rica I work on alternative energy projects. I enjoy challenging projects
and deriving solutions to difficult problems. I have a unique perspective on
problem resolution that has proven fruitful over the years.
I
am always ready for the next adventure, and after 50 years on the planet I can
say that I am finally ready to really start learning.
As
you can see below, I have worked on a variety of projects. All have come to
successful conclusions.
My
experience has contributed to making me a valuable asset to any project I have
taken part in.
You
would not regret allowing me to contribute to your projects in a mutually
beneficial arrangement.
I
have programmed in WINDOWS for 20 years using VBASIC, PASCAL JAVA and C\C++.
I
have developed numerous embedded systems, designing both the hardware and
software.
12/07 - Present
Working
for Heart Transverter S.A. on an alternative energy project. The main
product is a next generation inverter with smart meter interface. I am the head
of the software department. I am also involved in firmware development which
leverages my electronics engineering background. The hardware platforms have
primarily been Cypress microprocessor based and Atmel based embedded systems.
Embedded development has been in ASM and C for the AVR controller. The
majority of PC software development here has been in JAVA using NetBeans Eclipse
IDEs, We use open source tools such as LifeRay, Bugzilla, Xplanner,
SVN, TRAC. Develop Web based apps using SpringSource tools (ROO),
GWT,
XMPP, servlets, develop M2M app based on MANGO, AMQ, CAMEL.
5/06 - 9/07
Working at Columbia Falls Aluminum plant. Implementing a new casting production line. The work involves converting existing VB6 apps to .NET, and developing new apps in VB.Net and C#, and Wonderware, AppForge for Window XP and Win Mobile Pocket Pc. Use OPC server to interface with PLCs for process control. Develop Barcode scanning and printing software. SQL for DB2 database backend. Crystal Reports for presentation.

06/98 - 02/00
Once
again I'm back at Columbia Falls Aluminum, (see below), this time to expand the
Web based
applications
that tie into the DB2 backend. I am also working with the process control
engineers to
come
up with new control algorithms. We continue to use IIS Web server and ASP for
the presentation
layer,
custom VB 6.0 ActiveX controls in the middle tier for business logic, and DB2 /
Oracle as the
back
end DB server. We are using MTS and MSMQ to provide asynchronous access to the
DB.
This
allows the process control computers to continue running even if the network or
DB server is
off
line. MSMQ provides the asynchronous connect capabilities, while MTS provides
transactional
capabilities
that guarantee the messages make it into the DB. We have expanded the company
intranet
to
allow the Home office in Switzerland to access company data via the internet in
realtime. We are
currently
exploring the use of XML for data exchange. To execute phase two of their
migration plan.
The
main objectives were to integrate the manufacturing floor, and provide intranet
/ internet access to
data
and process control. These objectives were met in 6 months with 3 developers,
with me being the
lead.
IIS ASP was the Web server used, VB 6.0 and Visual C++ ATL was used to develop
custom ActiveX
components
and implement control logic, DB2 / ORACLE were the back end database
servers.

08/97 - 05/98
Prior
to returning to CFAC, I was on contract with Oxford International, developing
the next generation
print
server for Intel. My main responsibility was to implement the 1284 compliant
port driver. The
platform
is x86 based, with a custom ASIC. Secondary responsibilities include operating
system optimization, network protocol stacks, NIC driver, and system tuning.
Coding was done in C and ASM. Equipment and software used were Tek 754C, HP
16500C -16550A - 16555A, 1284 Protocol analyzer, ECP test suite, IEEE 488 test
equipment, Network Sniffers, and Microtek EA486 ICE.
06/96 - 08/97
Prior
to my Intel contract I did 1099 work for Columbia Falls Aluminum Plant,
converting a 4270 based
mainframe
system to a Windows NT DB2/ORACLE based client server system. The system
performs
payroll/accounting,
and is integrated with the production floor. I was involved with specifying
requirements
and developing detailed design specs for the complete system. I converted
legacy COBOL
and
BASIC code to Visual Basic, C, ASM code and SQL queries. I developed most of
the daily, monthly,
and
yearly reports, primarily in Crystal Reports. I setup the database rules,
triggers and batch processing
applications
in DB2 and Oracle.
03/96 - 06/96
My
previous contract was with Teledyne Ryan in San Diego developing a Unmanned Air
Vehicle. My
responsibilities
include generating requirements for instrumentation, and a messaging protocol
over
various
radio links. The programming for instrumentation was in C for a 29K embedded
target.
The
messaging protocol is MFC C++ in the Windows 95 environment. For proof of
concept, I
developed
a Winsock compliant communication application that simulated the radio link
over a LAN,
and
dial up connection. Other code developed in MFC on the Win NT 3.51 platform
included a terminal
interface
to the air vehicle that allowed users to access system variables and provide
stimulus to the
air
vehicle simulating real world command and control.
09/95 - 02/96
Prior
to that my assignment involved a T1 telecommunications embedded product for
DataRace of
San
Antonio, Texas. My responsibilities included troubleshooting hardware design
problems, writing
68360
ASM and C code. Identify and resolve system throughput bottle necks, and
implement the
LAPB
protocol. I reported directly to the department head, and worked independently
onsite.
6/95 - 09/95
I
was on assignment with DataLight of Arlington Washington. Their main product is
an embedded
rommable
DOS. The product I was working on was a rommable binary compatible embedded Windows
operating
system. This product was shown at the 1995 embedded systems conference in San
Jose
California.
The project was coded in Borland C version 4.5. My responsibilities were USER
and GDI
functions,
namely keyboard handling, menus, resource loading, regions and rectangles, and
bitmap
display.
I reported directly to the project lead, and worked independently offsite.
