Recently acquired - Grubb & Ellis was a publicly traded, commercial real estate advisory, brokerage and property management. I managed the client accounting, financial reporting and information technology functions – for the property and facility management division, nationwide.

·          Designed and successfully implemented a firm-wide re-engineering of the accounting organization, processes and technology, turning a weak “back office” function into a cost effective competitive advantage and key component of the firm’s service offerings.

Senior Vice President, Controller/ Divisional CFO
CB Richard Ellis, Inc., Los Angeles, CA, 10/80 – 2/98

CB Richard Ellis is the largest and one of the most successful full service commercial real estate providers, worldwide.

Developed, implemented and managed all aspects of the financial systems, processes and nationwide organization supporting the property and facility management business units through evolutions in technology, organizational change and exceptional growth, as the firm became the largest property manager (of non-owned properties) in the nation - with a portfolio of over 200M square feet.

·          Built and managed corporate staff – providing IT, banking, cash management and internal audit, as well as regional organization of shared service centers providing all accounting and financial reporting. 
·          Established financial and operating policies and procedures assuring compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, applicable real estate regulations and institutional client requirements.
·          Led the team that developed the specifications for the first PC/LAN based accounting system to be implemented at CBRE. Subsequent versions of the system are still in use today at CBRE, and became the basis for the MRI system – commercially successful worldwide. 
·          Created cost accounting tools that allowed determination of all the costs associated with specific engagements – which became the company’s standard tool for pricing business and monitoring the profitability of individual assignments and client relationships.  
·          Recognized as a “thought leader” in the pioneering use of technology and accounting as a service – sought as featured speaker at real estate trade conventions and corporate events.
·          Led firm’s M&A activities – including identification of targets, valuation, deal structure, negotiation and integration.
·          Chief Operating Officer of CB Property Services – an entity that employed and provided HR and payroll support to all of the onsite building staff (i.e. engineers, maintenance personnel, security, etc..) at managed properties.

Acquired by Macy’s – Bullock’s Northern California Division of Federated Department stores operated six full line stores with annual revenue of $95M. I managed all corporate accounting and reporting, the monthly close process, the general ledger and all retail/cost inventory calculations.

Chairman, Pasadena Center Operating Company (PCOC), 7/05 – 6/12

 

The PCOC manages the City of Pasadena’s Convention Center and Civic Auditorium, and operates the Convention and Visitor Bureau, responsible for marketing the City as a destination for business and leisure travel.


·          Chaired the committee that oversaw construction of a $150M convention facility – completed on time, under budget and received LEED Gold certification.
·          Oversaw opening of the new convention facilities in the tough economic environment of 2009. Achieved profitability from operations – for the first time ever, in 2012.
·          Established annual strategic planning process to assure short and long term objectives are in synch with constituents: hoteliers, city businesses and visitor venues as well as the City, are supported by the budget and consider capital requirements. 


Director, Rose Bowl Operating Company (RBOC), 7/09 – 6/12

The RBOC manages the Rose Bowl stadium and Brookside Golf Course facilities in Pasadena, CA

·          Currently overseeing a $180M renovation of the Rose Bowl stadium.
