Coordinator
for safety and security for the United Nations in Japan, consisting of over 600
employees in 23 agencies at 17 locations.
Daily
duties included, but not limited to: manage safety and security for the United
Nations University Headquarters building in Tokyo; manage the Security
Management Team, SMT, (Heads of UN agencies); brief personnel and agencies on
safety and security issues; develop and implement the safety and security
policies for the UN in Japan (including fire/disaster evacuation); develop,
implement and instruct business contingency and continuity plans for various
agencies; instruct personnel on safety and security issues; develop, implement
and manage the security identification passes, budgeting and invoicing.
Travel
extensively to UN agencies throughout Japan and the region to coordinate with
local hospitals, police, fire departments and government agencies to provide support
to agencies, employees and visitors.
This involved contingency planning for pandemic flu’s and natural
disasters. Brief and instruct on health,
safety and security to agencies upon request.
Conduct the Security
Risk Assessments for UN agencies. Survey
and report on UN locations for safety and security, develop security procedures
and practices, ensure the maximum amount of safety and security for the minimal
amount of cost.
Procure
and delivery of safety and security materials, shatter resistant film,
preventative medications and emergency food supplies.
Other
duties included managing the UN security system in Japan. Develop, implement and execute the UN Japan
health, safety and security systems for the UN staff and dependents, prepare travel advisories, reports and
briefings, health, safety and security administration and development, close
personal protection security for VIP’s,
SMT advisor, safety and security instruction, and manage the Emergency
Communications Center for the UN in Japan.
Assist in ISO certification.

achievements; created, developed, implemented and managed the UN

Working for the DCSLOG, served as
the Logistical Plans and Exercise Officer for USARJ, and liaison officer to the
Japanese Ground Self Defense Forces.
As a logistician most duties included contingency planning for
operations and exercises. In the
logistics section is the Medical Branch for the Army. In this function I assisted the Army Surgeon
in the logistical warehousing, planning and deployment of an Army Field
Hospital at Sagami Depot, Sagamihara Kanagawa, Japan.

Computer System Engineer Special
Projects
First joining the United Nation University, my employment was in the
information
technology department, assisting over 100
employees on basic through advanced computer programs, hardware and software
installation to simple usage of office equipment. The main operating system was Windows 95 through
Windows 2000, including servers, backups, Windows NT and Windows Office. Also proficient with XP and Vista.
Other
duties included installation and recovery of PC’s, server maintenance and
backups, telephone system operations (PBX), cabling and wiring, email system
maintenance and general help desk duties.
After
returning from Active Duty, was hired to be the Special Projects officer for
the Director of Administration.
Coordinated multiple events, some extending over several weeks and involving hundreds of visitors and
participants. Special projects included
the procurement (including receiving and evaluating bids) and installation of
shatter resistant film, developing and coordinating emergency evacuations/fire
drills, gallery presentations, fashion and design events and implementing the
UN safety and security system for Japan.
