Senior Network Engineer
Provided consulting/customer services to the Department of Defense’s Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) for all aspects of the switching/routing facet of US Navy Fleet LANs.  Served as senior Subject Matter Experts specializing in Alcatel and Cisco networking product implementations.  Successfully managed several large scale projects including site survey LAN assessments, network grooms, and full LAN hardware and software installations.  Supported the SPAWAR 24x7 Help Desk by actively performing and leading last tier troubleshooting on the most serious LAN problems in the fleet.  Responsible for coordinating and performing the integration of numerous SSIL programs into shipboard LANs and providing network diagrams.  Routinely utilized lab assets for LAN problem replication and for testing a multitude of vendor products and systems for incorporation into the fleet LANs.  Duties were performed both stateside and in countries abroad as well as at sea and pier-side.

Principal Network Engineer
Conduct comprehensive LAN testing, functional integration, quality assurance validation, and network configurations in a lab environment on new US Navy ship LANs.  Solely responsible for all aspects of the switch and router equipment before the network is installed onboard ship.  Also provide post integration support to include ship’s company familiarization training and on-site technical assistance during installations.  Validate each network integration meets US Navy performance and functional specifications.  Provide off-site technical and installation support to multiple government departments in country and overseas.  Support various government and commercial tasks off-site when needed as well.  Direct Customer Paul Dickson, IITF Manager.
Key Contributions:
·         Consistently complete tasks ahead of schedule thus saving the government thousands of dollars in labor costs per task.
·         Discovered numerous design and configuration flaws in the new shipboard LAN designs before they were installed on ship.  Assisted with the resolution of these issues for current and future designs.  These findings enabled the shipboard installation team to save an untold amount of hours and they saved the government hundreds of thousands of dollars in on site troubleshooting and re-engineering.
·         Provided training to multiple east coast shipboard installation and support personnel from various government and contractor agencies on all facets of switching and routing in the new LAN designs.

Key Contributions:
·         Responded to a last-minute shipboard LAN casualty in Thailand May 2008 on only 6 hours notice.  Casualty was holding up a major joint forces exercise between the combined military forces of the US and many other countries.  Successfully identified and corrected the problem within hours of arrival in country and the exercise was able to continue without further delay.
·         Performed a total LAN reconfiguration onboard the USS Mount Whitney, the US/NATO flagship for the European battle theatre while the ship was underway on critical U.S. State Dept tasking.  Systematically restored all shipboard switches and routers on three separate networks to full mission ready state while working around ship’s schedule requirements.  All performance degradations on both US Navy LANs and the NATO LAN were completely resolved.  Work resulted in high level recognition from numerous ranking officials from both DoD and US Navy.
·         Integral team member that performed a 1.4 million dollar LAN installation/upgrade onboard USS Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka, Japan.  Provided six weeks of support and hands-on training to shipboard personnel after the install was complete.  Recognized in December 2006 with the SPAWAR Systems Center San Diego CENTER TEAM ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.














King Technologies, Inc                                                                                                                 March 2001 – February 2003
Systems Engineer
Responsibilities included research and development of new networking hardware, software and run-time configurations, tracking schedule/status of all milestones, developing test objectives from new system baseline requirements, drafting test plans/procedures, test reports, and conducting reviews of same documents.  Additional responsibilities included configuring test lab equipment and conducting testing as outlined in test plan/procedures, and also loading fielded baselines on lab assets to support troubleshooting of customer-reported anomalies and verification of network device configuration updates.  Vital member of a Battle Group Systems Integration Test team that assessed and corrected anomalies onboard US Navy ships while at sea.  Performed full LAN installations onboard Navy ships as well as network grooming and troubleshooting.

 

Commander Seventh Fleet (US Navy)                                                                             April 1997 – March 2001

Information Systems Technician
Served as Senior Systems Administrator for Commander Seventh Fleet on board the USS Blue Ridge.  Duties included administration of three major networks encompassing a combined total of thirteen Compaq servers and approximately 1,500 Dell workstations and laptops.  Responsible for the setup, configuration, maintenance, and administrative functions of backbone Windows NT and Exchange servers in a large network environment on four separate classification levels.  Provided technical application support and integration of new applications in accordance with fleet standards.  Managed all aspects and scheduling of backups on three NT LANs and one UNIX LAN.  Personally responsible for all data and e-mail disaster recovery through backup tapes.
