To whom it may concern:
I am Alton Barron and am interested in a
position as a senior surveyor, engineering technician, administrator or manager
with your firm.
I am a licensed Professional Land Surveyor
who has been working in nuclear construction for most of the last ten years on
a Department of Energy Project at Hanford, Washington, USA. Work experience includes being in charge of
all aspects of an Indonesian firms projects with a workforce of up to two
hundred employees, the purchase and expansion of an engineering firm in South
Africa and was the founder and owner of Commercial & Industrial Survey
Corporation located in San Diego County, California, USA. Duties handled have included safety,
training, surveying, engineering, administration and management.
In August 2001 I joined Bechtel as the
Assistant Lead Surveyor on the Waste Treatment Project at Hanford, Washington,
building a facility to cleanup nuclear waste and later worked on the Katrina
Project in the State of Mississippi, USA.
After leaving Bechtel in 2006 I went back to work for White Shield Inc.,
who supplies subcontract surveyors to the Waste Treatment Plant for Bechtel’s
use. Recently I was laid off due to a
lack of government funding. At different
times I was the Lead Surveyor on the High Level Waste and Low Level Waste
Facilities, the Assistant Lead on the Pretreatment Facility and have been
working on the Balance of Facilities. I
have been in charge of the Survey Departments procurements and helped write the
procedures for the Survey Department at the Waste Treatment Project. Another past position was to be in charge of
“verifying” accuracies and tolerances of the survey department’s work.
There is a requirement for all subcontract
surveyors at the Waste Treatment Project to pass one higher level of
certification within the CST Survey Learning Program. Other Bechtel surveyors and I have all helped
teach our fellow employees so they can pass these tests.
For
some two years on Sumbawa Island, Indonesia I trained Indonesian Nationals in
surveying, quality and safety. Also I
handled a lot of administration work on the project. For eleven months in Papua, Indonesia (Island
of New Guinea) I was in total charge of over forty Indonesian National
Surveyors and had to do all management, training, safety and administration in
building a coal fired power plant through Duke/Fluor Daniels for Freeport
Mining. I worked directly for the
Indonesian Firm “Earth Sains Indonesia” in Sumbawa and New Guinea. Later the owner of the company gave me 33% of
the stock in a new firm in South Africa that we purchased and expanded. I handled all feasibility studies that led
to the purchase and managed the company.
In conclusion I think that with my
experience in dealing and managing people of varied cultures and religions and
with the broad background of responsible duties handled, that I could be an
employee that could benefit your firm. Thank
