for side-scan, bathymetric, and sub-bottom profiler sonar design and sustaining
engineering

Performed mathematical modeling
of Tonpiltz audio projector characteristics and initial acoustic pool and sea
testing for new Model 3000SBP Sub-Bottom Profiler. Produced prototype utilizing
custom narrow BH hysteresis Metglas 2KW transformer technology with >2 KW
power FET transmitter.

Designed power MOSFET designs
for synchronous switching Buck / Boost / SEPIC DC-DC converters and
complementary N-N and P-N channel power MOSFET 1KW Class E totem pole
transmitters to sonar transducers.
·
Modified and delivered to the
U.S. Navy two existing Model 3000 Deep tow-fish with a custom titanium body to
accept custom deep water transducers for depths to over 1000 meters. Performed
custom output transformer and RF output coupling matching network design for
high Q transducer characteristics.
·
Designed a 3 axis motion /
attitude sensor for bathymetry image stabilization for the Model 5000V2-Bathy
variant and a new product the Model 5900 tow-fish. This product utilizes a PIC
controlled MEMs technology gyro and accelerometer as well as a coupled vendor
supplied fiber optic gyro for higher pitch, roll and yaw resolution. Performed all hardware design and low level
embedded software driver design and systems integration. In addition designed a
DC-DC buck switching power supply to operate this device.

Designed and developed the
Model S3900 Search and Recovery tow-fish for 900 KHz high resolution side scan
sonar with design of custom output transducer matching. This product has
resulted so far in over $2.5 million in sales.
·
Designed and developed a low
noise, differential front end side-scan sonar receiver for new Model 5000V2
tow-fish the performance that provides fine grain imaging to ocean thermal
noise limit.
·
Performed the system design for
several autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) modules utilizing Klein side scan
sonar electronics and transducers as well as a PC-104 based data acquisition
system.
·
Performed significant
Sustaining Engineering duties on existing products. Of note were responder / transponder add-ons
particularly one of which was a legacy “troubled” program for a survey agency
of the U.S. Navy. This program involved
an EMI / EMC issue which was fixed and turned around saving the program and
resulted in five million dollars of sales.

Participated in many sea trials
on the R/V Gulf Challenger (UNH) for various programs. Such work entailed below
deck laboratory and “deck hand” duties.
