General
Responsibilities:
- Create a
long-range plan for the Education Department, interpreting the mission
statement of the New Hampshire Historical Society for students and
learners of all ages both within the Society’s museum and through the
Society’s educational programs.
- Oversee a
departmental staff of 13, a team of volunteer docents, and rotating
interns on a per-semester basis.
- Collaborate
with curatorial department and publications department, and the Society’s
librarians, on Society projects and exhibitions with a focus on the
visitor experience.
- Compose an
annual budget for the Education Department and keep expenses in line with
this budget throughout the year.
- Oversee the
production of reports on statistics involving the visitor and student
experience both in the museum and through the Society’s educational
programs.
- Compose
grant proposals to support Education Department activities, oversee and
execute grant-supported programs and projects, and cultivate and maintain
strong relationships with donors and grant-giving organizations.
Education
Department Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage,
and improve all education programs including in-museum and traveling outreach
programs, and seek grantor organizations as necessary to fund
improvements, upgrades, and new program development.
- Oversee the
production of a regular teaching schedule, coordinating with other, local
venues.
- Schedule
teaching staff for educational program assignments, schedule docent staff
in the museum gallery, and develop projects for department interns.
- Organize and
administrate the annual Advanced Placement History Conference for A.P.
U.S. History students.
- Develop
training materials and training programs for teaching and volunteer staff,
especially for any new programs or exhibitions.
Public
Programs Responsibilities:
- Develop and public
programs including adult history courses, lectures, book signings, and
technical workshops for local historical societies.
- Oversee and
develop advertising public programs via mail, e-mail, and web using
Microsoft programs.
- Oversee
registration of public programs and involve other staff members as
necessary on the date of the event.
- Cultivate
positive relationships with presenters, scholars, and authors who can
offer public programs in line with the Society’s mission statement.

County Savings Bank to completely fund a program visit by 7th
grade Rundlett Middle School students in May 2011. Awarded a second time for May 2012.
- Awards from the
Cogswell Benevolent Trust and the Saul O. Sidore Foundation to update and refurbish educational
outreach program materials (Award: Summer 2010, project completed 2011).
- Award from the Lincoln
Financial Foundation to serve 2,500 in underserved communities in New
Hampshire with educational outreach programs free of charge (Award: Spring
2011 for the 2011-2012 school year).
This is the second consecutive year this award has been given for
these activities.
