WORK
EXPERIENCE
Employer Name : UPenn Library Services
Duration : Dec '11 – Present
Title : Software Engineer
Project: Groovy Metridoc Toolkit
Code: http://code.google.com/p/metridoc/
Designed and developed a web based
reporting toolkit in Groovy to automate the construction of reports and batch
processing jobs for library information systems. Provided a REST api for remote access. Made extensive use of Spring to manage
service configuration, MongoDB to store the ad-hoc report information, and
implemented the front end with jQuery and gsp.
Employer Name : Hosting.com
Duration : Sept '10 – Oct '11
Title : Software Engineer
I worked with
Python to develop tools for DNS, the Zenoss monitoring system as well as work
on custom in-house applications. I wrote several SOAP interfaces that were
consumed by .NET clients. Every
application used git as the version control system and was deployed using httpd
on Linux.
Project: DNS Management Service
This project was a service designed to
provide access to our DNS system. This
was exposed to both our internal applications and customers. I used the Pylons
framework to create a web service for the DLZ extension to BIND, exposed both
SOAP & JSON-RPC versions of the API, and validated record formats per the
DNS spec (RFC 1035) to ensure data integrity.
Project: Zenoss Control System
Created a SOAP API to control our Zenoss
monitoring installation. I used XML-RPC and SOAP to create a tiered
architecture allowing access to event data, performance data, device
information. The system interacted with
Zenoss and Zope to provide a remote interface, and I worked with RRDtool to
expose RRD based performance information.
Also during this time I maintained an in house Rails application that
consumed the XML-RPC service
Project: Application Stack Reporting System
Lead the development of an application that
reported the health of an entire application stack, not just an individual
device. Created a triple store to handle
complex hierarchy relationships in this application. SOAP methods & objects were dynamcically
created in order to reduce maintenance.
Added a pattern matching validation layer that enforced the proper
hierarchy.
Project: Keymaster API key management service
Designed & implemented a service
designed to centralize our API key deployment.
Designed flexible schema to allow storage of cross application API
authorization. Designed the application and configured MySQL to use replication
for higher availability, and built in a failover cache on the client side to
account for client losing network connection
Employer Name : Dade Behring/Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics
Duration : March '05– August '10
Title : Assistant Engineer
I began working
at Dade Behring as a manufacturing engineer in 2005. In early 2006, I began
transitioning to a software development role. In 2007 Dade Behring was
purchased by Siemens. These are some of my projects.
Project: Drawing Review Tool
This project was designed from the ground
up to allow engineers to “mark up” design changes to drawings. I created a
custom content management system using Ruby on Rails, using HTML, ImageMagick,
CSS, and AJAX for the presentation layer. Used MySQL as the backed.
Project: Barcode Identity Management System
This project was designed to centrally
control user identities for manufacturing and our supplier base. The system
also generated barcode

for use on the production floor, and was designed
to comply with FDA regulations. Used
Oracle
LDB (now called APEX) and wrote PL/SQL and Java Stored procedures
Project: Documentation Generation
Our legacy manufacturing system only had
documentation in print form. Successfully scanned, parsed, linked and uploaded
thousands of pages of text, making it available electronically. Used optical character recognition software
to convert scanned .pdf files to text, and regular expressions to parse, link
and upload the content to a MediaWiki server
Project: Manufacturing Systems Reporting Tool
While working as an engineer I
independently created a project that automated the generation of manufacturing
reports. I created a natural Swing user
interface that mapped well onto the problem domain, and installed a MySQL proxy
database to improve performance.
