Project
Manager

ROLE
I seek a pure project management or IT management role in a
small to mid-size company. My salary requirements are flexible and I wish to
remain in the Atlanta metro area. If contracted, I prefer a minimum six month
contract.
OVERVIEW
I seek a high energy,
fast-paced, dynamic production environment where project complexities and
challenges dominate each day. I prefer diverse project volume and multi-tasking
environments and a place where others in my organization are as stoked and
motivated as I am. I seek an inexhaustible source of challenge for my unmatched
facilitation skills and treat each project as my finest hour. I am very high
energy. I am
strongly goal-oriented and motivated best in environments in which results and
outcomes are rewarded and desired. I am concise but tactful. I am assertive but
not aggressive.
I am not a process slave and prefer audacious movement
toward goals over anything else. My career has been marked by a natural and
rapid progression from Web Developer to Software Engineer to Team Lead and to
Project Manager. All hours expended on my projects are billable to the client
and I can document the fact that no project I’ve managed exceeded SOW time or
expense. Because of my prior software engineering experience I am rarely
surprised by technical “innovations” and “epiphanies” that occur in the last
week of a project.
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR
- Extremely goal and results
oriented expectations; all measure of a good fit lies here
- Primary goal is bringing in
projects under time and on budget with client service that ensures repeat
business. Anything else is treated as a critical path risk.
- A very high energy work
environment - fun but focused.
- These key criteria are essential

and agnostic.

Senior Project Manager - Program
Manager
Manage
approximately 20 software engineers, DBAs and web developers for various
projects. Additional responsibilities in last 2 years have been to manage the
overall IT department. This company provides a portal for enhanced access to
dozens of commercial databases and services selling personal information used
in marketing, law enforcement, research, legal discovery, etc. This is a
web-based, custom software management environment. My primary role is to visit
client sites in a consultant role at the inception phase, then return to our
site and manage the project to completion through the remaining phases. This
was almost exclusively a middleware, custom software environment. Use the Project Management Body of Knowledge and
Agile methodologies to perform risk, resource, and cost management. As one of
five project managers for this company, I manage projects over their full
development life-cycle, from conception to completion as well as having been
tasked with moving especially slow projects forward. I have had the opportunity
here to mentor 3 of our junior project managers.
I
led the implementation of a best practices framework for our company which
involves the Program Manager, the Account Manager, the Business Analyst and the
technical team.

– 09/01/03 Wall Street On
Demand, Inc. (Contract) – Boulder ,
CO
Project Manager
Managed
software projects for a Wall Street investment firm. In this role I performed various Project
Management tasks including Gantt charting and writing project plans. I also
performed Application Architecture making heavy use of Rational Rose, UML and
RUP. The software I designed responds to events in the various market exchanges
(mostly U.S. Exchanges) such as the NASDAQ and NYSE and processes that
information in a user-configured manner. The software then 'pushes' this data
to clients using a variety of transport mechanisms. My responsibilities
included designing and partly implementing (through header files) new
“channels“ through which we deliver market information; such as fax, internal
document management, ftp, etc. As part of this work I specified/documented
approximately 400 stored procedures and wrote over 100 of them for use with
MS-SQL Server. This was a high pressure, client driven environment in which
software development cycles were rapid and demanding.
09/2001
- 09/2002 Applied Systems Intelligence, Inc. (Contract)
– Atlanta , GA
Lead Software Engineer
Wrote
artificial intelligence software (C++) and the network interfaces (C++) between
the company's product (PreAct) and vendor software, most of which runs on
VxWorks, Microsoft's Win32 platforms and Linux 2.4.
Used
Rational Rose, UML, crystal reports and several other design aids and tools.
Authored several specification and design documents.
Additional
work included designing and writing network interfaces between PreAct and route
planning algorithms for unmanned ground vehicles for the U.S. Army. This work
was finished ahead of schedule. Current work includes designing and writing a
publish/subscribe mechanism of communication between ground vehicles using very
high frequency, military RF. This is similar to advanced systems built for the
private sector. This project was completed ahead of schedule.
Began
working in project management roles while still a lead software engineer.
06/2001
- 09/2001 Secureworks,
Inc. (Contract) – Atlanta , GA
Senior Software Engineer
Wrote
a Java Object Oriented database software application first developed
conceptually at Carnegie-Mellon for the handling of all internal data at
Secureworks, including all network "alerts" received in the Security
Operations Center (SOC). This persistence tool paradigm is based on predicate
Calculus and propositional logic (including Bayesian 'belief systems'). All
objects in the system can be tagged with any combination of six properties;
annotations, classifications, definition (for semantic consistency),
identification (a unique id), relations ("is-a", "has-a"),
and revisions. My work included writing the classes to implement these
properties, and providing the SQL interface layer for same. Our primary sales
vertical was banking customers seeking high-security network intrusion
detection and prevention systems.
Additional
work included performance enhancements and performance testing of our flagship
product, the iSensor. The iSensor concept constitutes a marriage of an IDS and
firewall; by intercepting packets on the wire the payload is examined, sentinel
string matches are attempted, and if a match is found the packet in question is
serviced (and possibly dropped) according to user-set configuration rules.
Specific work on this product involved fine-tuning a modified version of the
"Snort" IDS program for speed enhancements, mostly involving the
reading and writing of packets from one interface to the other. Used ethereal,
pcap, tcpdump, and network performance tools extensively during this period.

- 09/2001 Stonebranch,
Inc. – Atlanta , GA
Software
Engineer
This
company's product was application middleware known as Universal Command. This
software allowed for the execution of commands and jobs on one OS from another.
True redirection (of unlimited size and duration) of standard out, standard
error and standard input allowed for the output of large batch jobs on machines
such as OS390 to be displayed and controlled from OS's such as NT. This
software was intended for use in Enterprise ,
high availability networks.
Wrote
multi-ported C/C++ production software written to run on Sun's Solaris 7/8,
Linux 2.2, NT4.0, W2K, AIX 4.3, OS390 (MVS), OS400, Reliant, FreeBsd and
others. My work there included use of both Win32 and POSIX API's, including
threadsafe code libraries (wrote a set of multi-ported wrapper translation
units for threadsafing Universal Command). Used CGI, XML, SOAP, Perl, Source
Offsite, LeakTrace and Visual C++. Extensive experience writing network
software, from socket programs to cgi and N-tier applications. Lead developer
on cgi/N-tier enhancement to company's flagship product written in both C and
Java. This enhancement involved running Universal Command from the internetwork
and displaying batch output in a user specified location.
Also
used network adminstration tools often and heavily, including ipf and NAT for
OpenBsd firewalls, ipchains and ip masquerading for Linux, Sendmail, imap,
tripwire, ssh (1 and 2) and many others. Thoroughly familiar with LAN security
and adminstration issues.
Also
was lead author of C/C++ software project (of only three programmers total)
designed to provide client anonymity by use of randomly selected proxy server
rotation (similar to AT&T's "Crowds" project) whereby each user
acted as a proxy for some other, randomly selected user. Constituted
approximately 20'000 lines of original production code. My development
experience there was in the GNU/gcc/g++/gdb/emacs environment. Used the pcap
library, sockets, encryption (symmetric and asymmetric) and pthreads
frequently.
Early
college work included work on a broadband-based weather website that served up
large weather imagery from SQL databases. These large images were retrieved
(from a government database), modified for aesthetics and animation (using
gifsicle, gimp, etc.), stored in our databases, then presented on demand by web
users. Made use of SQL and databases (Oracle).
Also
used network administration tools often and heavily, including ipf and NAT for
OpenBsd firewalls, ipchains and ip masquerading for Linux, Sendmail, Imap,
Tripwire, ssh (1 and 2) and many others.
EDUCATION B.S. Georgia College &
State University.
