2004)
Successfully led migration from legacy
computer system at former Union Camp facility to International Paper’s
preferred system (after Union Camp – International Paper merger). This system was specifically used for
warehousing and manufacturing. Assured
that mill needs were met and that end users understood how to use the system and
take advantage of its features.
Assured
all needs in the mill were accurately documented and prioritized by acting as
liaison between 7 linerboard mills and corporate MES (Manufacturing Execution
System) IT.
Ensured
that all 7 linerboard mills were aware of and understood system upgrades and
fixes before they were installed.
Designed
and implemented dozens of intricate Crystal and Web (ASP .NET) reports pulling
data from various databases (Oracle, GE-Fanuc’s Proficy, OSIsoft’s PI). Reports were designed for the Savannah Mill,
but were made available to and used by other International Paper linerboard
mills.
Process Control Engineer
(Information Systems) – Pineville, LA, Linerboard Mill (1995 – 2001)
Key
contributor to the implementation OSIsoft’s PI system at the Pineville Mill
after it was chosen as the proving ground to determine if PI was the right
choice for International Paper’s mills.
Due to the demonstrated success of this implementation, PI is currently
used by most of International Paper’s paper mills. PI is a real-time database by OSIsoft, L.L.C.
of San Leandro, CA.
Built
hundreds of PI tags to capture data from field instrumentation and manual
entry.
Developed
and maintained about 5 different interfaces from field instrumentation to PI
using VAX C.
Developed
and maintained about 8 manual entry interfaces (HMI) in Visual Basic to store
lab data in the PI database. Trained
operators to use input screens.
Developed
and maintained dozens of Process Book displays to present PI data to operators,
process engineers, and managers, to aid in making process decisions.
Maintained
the PI systems by installing updates from OSIsoft, performing data backups, and
restoring data from backups as needed.
Maintained
OpenVMS operating system on one Alpha and two VAXes by installing updates
and/or patches, performing backups, and restoring from backups as needed.
Led
successful site upgrade of International Paper’s proprietary MES (Manufacturing
Execution System) running on an outdated HP computer to the version running on
OpenVMS on an Alpha computer.
Provided
(developed when necessary) documentation for system applications and systems.
Trained
operators, systems personnel, control engineers, and technicians in the area of
system applications and systems use.
