HEB has Over the last 100 years General Merchandise and Drug Store have been operating as one even though the business model for each is very different. The current hierarchy and joint operation of General Merchandise and Drug Store will no longer support the strategic business direction going forward as General Merchandise will have a greater presence in the product mix. Therefore, the business needs the ability to have greater visibility and management over GM. The new structure will set up the enterprise for future business growth. In addition to GM and Drug Store, Grocery will also participate in the restructure of the product hierarchy.
Product Hierarchy is simply the way individual products aggregate thru a defined
Structure or hierarchy.
· A Sub Commodity can only be associated to 1 Commodity
· A Commodity can only be associated to 1 Class
· A Class can only be associated to 1 Sub-Departmentassociated to 1 Department
· A Category can be associated to unlimited Sub Commodities
· Category will continue just like today – using Attributes to classify Category
· Some changes will occur at the commodity and sub commodity levels
· These changes will be based on the new rules that govern the roles commodities and sub commodities will now play
· All commodities and sub commodities will adhere to strict naming conventions.

HEB system has UPC (Universal Product Code), which is either Sunrise 2005 compliant or GTIN compliance. Two applications those share data outside HEB were chosen to be GTIN compliance initially. The project aims to convert 11,12 and 13-digit UPC to 14-digit without impacting any other system that interacts with the two systems which are made to GTIN compliance.
