Project Profile

Title	:		Porting of Linux into COGENT CSB226 sbc, which has a INTEL XSCALE PXA250 processor.
Duration	:		4 months.

Description	:		The aim of the project is to port Linux kernel on to COGENT CSB226 sbc, which utilizes almost all the capabilities of the wonderful “INTEL PXA250” Xscale processor. My initial part is to port a small bootloader on to the board, which is just enough to transfer the output image to the CSB226 sbc . The next part was to get the kernel patches for Xscale architecture, do sufficient modifications to the source code of the kernel for LCD device driver, linkerfile and  to compile it using the Arm-linux toolchain .I  want to make Ramdisk as file syatem(corrently I am working this part) Finally I  download it to the COGENT CSB226 and debug it using ABATRON BDI 2000 , the hardware debugger, which is very stable and supports MMU feature in Linux. The further scope of this project involves in porting Xwindows (preferably GNOME) to COGENT CSB226 and use it as a portable multimedia device.

Description		:		The aim of the project is to port the bootloader “MicroMonitor” also known as umon to different boards containing various processors like ARM, PPC and XSCALE. The idea behind this project is to make the board up and running with a small program other than the bootloader and to debug them. By that we can have a feel of the board (and this according to me is the first step for starting a embedded system project in the design stage). Two of the boards were done for our projects and three of the PPC variants were done for external projects. I used Microcross GNU Xtools toolchain for compiling and linking, ABATRON BDI2000 as the hardware debugger and BDIGDB given by ABATRON ,gdb and gdbtk in Xtools were used as the front end for debugging.

Description	:		Implemented a communication model to an embedded application using  embedded PCs, VxWorks and RS-232 media in asynchronous (UART) operation. Both the targets are connected using NULL modem cable. As the VxWorks  is a Real-Time Multi-tasking Kernel, this PPP driver is an implemented as a task and it operates with the application. It provides well-defined user interfaces (API’s) to other tasks. This PPP driver is not using all of its associated protocols, but most of the core part.

Description	:	This project is to develop a driver for a data Acquisition project  based on On Time VxWorks.This device driver supports simple polling  method, Internal pacer trigger (8253) based Interrupt driven method and high speed DMA driven method using Channel 2 . This driver module has been designed so that it could be used as a supplemental module to RTKernel-32 with all the well defined APIs.Since  it has  a kernel abstraction layer where all the OS and processor dependent variables  are defined, it can be ported to any other RTOS easily .

Title	:	Automatic Energy Meter for C505L
Duration	:	8 months.

Description	:	This is a WHM (watt hour meter),which measures active, apparent and reactive powers,line frequency,voltage and load current. The functionality of WHM is divided into 3 main functional modes: a)     Normal Mode :- The MCU (meter control unit) carries out the measurement and computational activities during this mode. It also communicates with the external NVSRAM to store latest readings. b)    Power Down Mode:- LCD and RTC are disabled and A/D is stopped. c)     Tamper Mode:- The output power supply is withdrawn and will be resumed only by resetting the meter through Trip switch.   The main advantages of this WHM is to reduce the cost, theft and corruption of the electricity,  improve metering accuracy and improve the quality of electricity distribution through remote meter reading  by providing communication facility between meter and computer. Customised micro-kernel had been designed and implemented for the same.
