Title
:
Analysis of Stress Intensity Factors
in a Fillet
Welded
T-Joint.
Automatic Control Using :
C++ Language
Package : Ansys
Team Size
: 4
Role : Leader (coding & documentation)
Description
Fillet welded T-joint with and
without cracks like discontinuities are analyzed using the finite element
method. Stress intensity factors for opening mode are determined for undercut
at upper toe (UCUT), undercut at lower toe (UCLT) and intrinsic flaw (IF) under
various loading conditions, weld dimensions and flange flexibilities. The relative displacement Dv and distance from tip of the crack ‘r’ values are calculated using
the ANSYS package. The finite element analysis shows that the upper toe and
lower toe regions are the highly stressed locations. Further it is concluded
that the undercut type of defect located at upper toe regions are more severe
and prone to crack initiation sites as compared undercut at lower toe and
intrinsic flaw.
