Experience
SQL
Server, Access, VBA, Excel
Company: Ceres Environmental
11/10-Current
Role: Programmer/Analyst,
Consultant
Tools: SQL Server 2005,
Access, Excel, VBA
At Ceres, I
gathered business requirements, created a data model, and then a database in
SQL Server. I also created an Access
front end that allows a user to enter data into the SQL Server database with
stored procedures and functions. Also I
made a custom reporting feature that creates an Excel report spreadsheet based
on criteria chosen from a user screen.
The application uses ADO to connect directly from Access to the SQL
database. Also the program uses the SQL language, SQL stored procedures, SQL
functions to store and retrieve data from the SQL database. This is a start to finish build of the
application. The user front-end also
allows the user to create a report by choosing what to include in the report,
then the program builds an SQL statement and creates a report in Excel
formatted with VBA from Access.

Reports
As a part
time consultant, I’ve created a feature to allow users to save or create
personal settings in the grids they view in the application. Modified and/or
created new active reports. Enhanced the
existing application in VB6 with a SQL Server 2000 database. This included gathering requirements, design,
coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance to the application. This software is currently in
production. I created SQL scripts to
update all existing databases to changes.
Access
Database Development
Company: Ameriprise 1/07- 1/09
Role: Programmer/Analyst,
Consultant
Tools: Access
I gathered user
requirements, developed, tested, and implemented an Access application for HR
to keep track of applicants and hiring information that tracks the applicant
through hiring and termination (if necessary).
I also gathered requirements, designed, developed, tested, and
implemented an Access application that imports a file daily of the clients that
move in out of area offices as well as other information about these
movements. In both of these applications,
I gathered requirements from the users, designed the data model. From this, I created the back-end database and
front-end application. These
applications used extensive VBA coding to automate emailing of reports to all
managers and supervisors at Ameriprise. These
applications were start to finish applications. I rewrote and added
functionality to an existing application that calculates variable pay to
advisors. I enhanced existing as well
as developed many new access reports in this application.

Created
new Crystal Reports 9 for existing web based software. This software is used by the school districts
for community based programs. The reports call SQL stored procedures,
functions, views and are called using ASP.
Some reports were enhanced and others were made from scratch, creating
new SQL code as needed. Information is
stored in a 300+ table data model and stored in SLQ Server 2000 database. This
is a contract position to exclusively create requested reports for the
customers.

Reports
Wrote
a Visual Basic front-end application with an Access back-end database. I gathered all requirements from the users, designed,
wrote, tested and implemented this software.
This application keeps track of all clients and the various services
provided by the state to each client.
The application also keeps track of all current client information as
well as any follow up questions that the bureau would like to ask. The
application created a quarterly and yearly report for the financial department
to apply for grants and state assistance. The follow up report is dynamic and
the user of this software makes each question. I made a stand-alone version and
a multi-user version of this software.
This program was a start to finish project. Crystal Reports 8.0 is used to present data to
the user. Also, created customized
reports and other enhancements upon request for this software. The only programmer that has worked on this
software including design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance to
the application.
VBA and
SQL Server Development
Company: Incisive Computing LLC, Trucking Software 3/01-4/02
Role: Programmer/Analyst,
Consultant
Tools: Access, SQL 2000
Modified
an existing Access application to specific requirements of a new customer using
VBA. This application is a very big
application that keeps track of trucking information at a trucking yard. The changes I made had to be integrated into
the existing application. Put in a
security piece that prevents users from making illegal copies. This is an Access front end with an Access
back-end database. Changed the VBA code
to work with SQL Server back-end database as well as Access. This also included making all changes to the
code as well as to any objects that aren’t supported by SQL Server database.
Script was used to make changes in the existing applications that were in
production. Used VBA to develop reports
for this application with Access reports.

Role: Programmer/Analyst,
Consultant
Tools: Access
Wrote
an Access front-end application using VBA with an Oracle back-end
database. This application performed
searches of incoming data versus the data that resides in their Oracle
databases and told the user of any matching data in the system. Used all types
of queries as well as SQL statements to compare and retrieve data for this
application. The matching data is shown
using Access reports and copied to PDF format. The customer could view the
results with an Adobe acrobat reader. This was a start to finish project at
Group Health Inc. in Eden Prairie.

Wrote a VB
Application with an Access Database for an employee training record keeping
application. My VB6.0 application used
ADO and SQL to store and retrieve data.
Developed an Active X tool (COM) to be called from another program (in
Authorware) this Active X tool allowed the scores to automatically be entered
into the existing Access database for the employee taking the training from the
Authorware program. Developed two startup wizards for deployment of each of
these tools. This was a start to finish project. I have recently upgraded the
Active X tool at their request. I used Crystal Reports to show the data.
Excel VBA, Access and
Visual Basic 6 Development with Crystal Reports
Company: American Express Inc. 6/99 to 11/99
Role: Programmer/Analyst,
Consultant
Tools: Access, VB6, Crystal
Reports, Excel
Developed
two desktop applications in Visual Basic 6. Used Access databases to store all
data in the programs and Crystal Reports to present the data. This software
replaced an old application that was written in Excel. All of the VBA code in Excel had to be fixed
to work correctly in the new VB application.
This application allowed advisors to set goals and keep track of goals
on a weekly basis. This weekly data was
then sent in a CSV format to the level above each office on a weekly
basis. The second program was at the
group level or one level up from the office level. This program read the data from a CSV file
and put into the Access database where it could be seen with crystal
reports. Also I wrote a program to
convert existing data from Excel into the Access databases. American Express advisors
and leaders are currently using these applications. Answered help desk calls
from leaders and advisors on questions dealing with the old Excel application
as well as the new software. This was a start to finish project.
Visual Basic 5 Development/Programming, Access and VBA
Development
Company: Wand Corporation, Restaurant
Software Provider 1997 to 05/99
Role: Programmer, Employee
Tools: VB5, VB6, VBA,
Access, Excel, Active X
Designed,
wrote, tested and implemented software for touch screen registers at Denny’s
restaurants. This software was written in VB 5.0 (eventually I upgraded it to
VB6.0) with a Windows 95 operating system, and was used by all of Wand’s
Denny’s restaurants. This software used many API function calls as well as
third party Active X tools. It also used
an ini file to read in certain settings for each register. The data for the orders was stored in an
Access database. With 3 or 4 registers writing to the database at once it was a
multi-user client server application. Modified this software for KFC and Wendy’s
restaurant registers, some of Wand’s customers.
Created both types on the same exe where the ini file could tell which
type of Register to use. In addition, performed upgrades including design of
new reports to the Access program using VBA for company’s in-house
database. This position included using
Excel as well Access in many different capacities for the Wand Corporation.
