My primary responsibility at Providence
is to be the lead engineer for the Microsoft Lync 2010 environment, which
currently has around 12,000 users. I am also part of a team of 4 people who
are responsible for Exchange, BES, and Zenprise for the entire enterprise
(approximately 65,0000 users).
Key Accomplishments
Designed and implemented MS Lync 2010 and
migrated 10,000+ users from OCS R1 to the new Lync infrastructure.
Created and led training for help desk,
account management, and end users on the new Lync environment.
Wrote powershell scripts for the various
regions in order to automate user creation and migration.
Member of the Polycom project team to
integrate the polycom equipment into Lync and Exchange.

During my employment at VanderHouwen, I
worked on a 6 month contract as a Sr. Systems Engineer for the City of
Milwaukie. My department was responsible for all data and phone related
services for the entire city, which is comprised of Police, City Hall,
Library, and Public Works. My primary responsibilities included upgrading the
current infrastructure to the newest technologies, implement systems that
will reduce the workload on the IST staff by automating various duties,
optimize the current environment, and to train the IST staff on the
technologies.
Key Accomplishments
Performed an extensive audit on the
existing infrastructure, documented the findings, and implemented changes to
key services such as; DNS, replication, Group Policy, and roaming profile
settings in order to optimize the current environment as well as to increase
overall security.
Upgraded Active Directory from Windows 2003
to Windows 2008 R2. Migrated key services and roles to the Windows 2008 R2
servers.
Implemented a centralized patch management
solution using WSUS. Automated server and workstation patching and created a
monthly patching schedule to ensure servers and workstations were kept
up-to-date. Created various scripts to assist in troubleshooting client
problems. Trained the support staff to use the new system.
Implemented virtualization into the
environment by deploying Microsoft Hyper-V. Virtualized Web and Application
servers.
Installed and configured SharePoint 2010
server as part of a pilot project to replace the current Intranet. Configured
various sites focusing on project collaboration and document storage. Demonstrated
the integration between SharePoint 2010 and the Office 2010 suite.
Took over administration of all SQL
servers. Created maintenance plans for all instances of SQL to ensure regular
backups were being run. Deployed SQL 2008 R2 into the environment. Developed
a plan to consolidate many of the existing SQL servers and simplify the
environment.
Took over administration of Exchange 2003. Redesigned
the current server by creating a second Information Store for Supervisors and
Managers and migrated their mailboxes to the new store. Implemented a quota
system for all users. Wrote a detailed user guide on mailbox management to
assist the users in cleaning up their mailboxes. Supported all users in
reducing the size of their mailbox to ensure they were below the set
quotas.
Introduced Microsoft System Center
Configuration Manager 2007 into the environment. Configured the server to be
able to deploy Operating System Images remotely using PXE boot. Created
packages to deploy various applications.
