Aug 2011 – Present
American Student Assistant is a non
profit organization in student loan industry. Under the Federal Family
Education Loan Program (FFELP), which ended as of July 1, 2010, guarantors
traditionally assisted the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to insure private
lenders against the risk of loans defaulting. American Student Assistance (ASA)
developed the Education Debt Management
System (EDMS) to advocate today’s borrowers ensuring their financial
wellness.
As a provider of Education Debt
Management Services, ASA receives and utilizes borrower and loan data from
customers and their associated Data Exchange Partners (DEP). Customers and DEPs will provide data files in
varying formats. The customers for EDMS
are primarily schools requiring assistance in lowering their student loan
borrowers’ default rate. The repayment
of loans is handled by loan servicers (such as Sallie Mae, Nelnet, Citibank
Loan Servicing, etc.). Data pertaining
to whether a loan is in good standing or delinquent comes from loan
servicers. Servicers make “delinquent
borrower” reports from available servicers, usually by running a report and
downloading the file from a website or via a subscription output which can be
scheduled for automated report delivery by email. The servicer is not directly a customer of
