As Senior Windows, Exchange and Blackberry Administrator, supervised a staff of 15 expert Windows system administrators to support all Computer Services Division systems, web and email services, Department of Defense and Air Force customers' systems in the largest Mid Tier Server Operations in CSD DISA.  Worked with other three DECCs in establishing, establishment of the Server Operations best practices, and Enterprise server operations issues.  Supervised the installation, configuration and operations support of assigned servers.  Planned, orchestrated and directed just-in-time facility, Technical Support, Veritas backup, ESM Tivoli and Sitescope, and Central Communications Center (a regionalized network management center) Network configuration and Security Automation work actions of new servers into production.  Planned and lead technical discussions on installation, configuration, testing, implementation of operating/database, application software during server build process and functional operations check.  Facilitated rapid and prompt implementation and follow-on support.  Managed multiple application and installation projects for the serviced customers.

Project Manager and Lead Engineer for DISA-wide Email Consolidation Project leading a team of 5 expert Windows system administrators to build out 36 domain controllers, cluster Microsoft Exchange Servers, Blackberry Enterprise servers, Outlook Web Access servers and Defense Messaging System servers. 

Managed DISA Transformation Remote Management Project by traveling to DECCs San Diego, Denver, St Louis, Jacksonville, Norfolk, Chambersburg, Mechanicsburg, Ogden and Oklahoma to review local site's readiness for remote management.  Traveled extensively (5 months out of one 12 month
period) to DISA sites for transformation remote management implementation.  Met with site directors and staff on remote management challenges and issues.  Elevated issues and facilitated resolution on behalf of the CSD Server Operations.

Served as the site Systems Engineer, and technical subject matter expert on serviced customers' systems. Reviewed and assisted customers in developing requirement documents; provided technical solutions and labor of efforts to customer account representative for cost estimation, letter of estimate and bill of material build.  Led system implementation efforts for arriving customer applications, while ensuring proper ESM monitoring to system backups and follow-on support for day to day operations environment. 

Specific Accomplishments:

  • Discovered critical disk space issue (less than 10mb available) with primary Exchange 5.5 server due to lack of proactive maintenance that adversely affected the server’s availability to clients within first week of employment. Recommended and implemented an immediate disk space recovery plan and offline defragmentation of the database utilizing Microsoft Exchange Utility eseutil.exe to recovery 6 gigabytes of space. Analyzed server configuration and reconfigured SMTP logging and deleted unneeded logs to recovery another 2 gigabytes of space.

  • Analyzed evening shift user complaints of non-availability of Exchange server for one to two hours each night utilizing PerfMon and discovered Exchange NIC was peaked during nightly backup operations causing users to timeout due to lack of bandwidth. Developed solution to enable a secondary NIC, requested and configured IP and network drop, and requested Veritas team utilize this NIC as a dedicated backup for Exchange to alleviate the bandwidth issues.

  • Assisted Team 4 on two TDY’s to DISA Dayton for knowledge transfer and to prepare servers for remote administration. Customers involved are AFKS, EDW and Q303. Installed Tivoli on all servers and trouble-shooted any Out Of Band (OOB) issues for remote monitoring from DISA Montgomery SMC.

  • Exchange Project Lead for DISA Email Consolidation which is currently in progress to consolidate email services for all of the DISA Processing Elements and the two SMC’s, to include an email archive solution. I have collaborated with Active Directory Project Leads from DISA HQ, and operational leads at Ogden, DISA OKC SMC and DISA Montgomery SMC building a team approach to analyze and evaluate major system project requirements of considerable complexity requiring a thorough understanding of all parameters affecting and interfacing with the systems and users involved. I have reviewed the user requirements and provided direction in the identification of any problems and potential resolutions. Developed business rules to define a standardized Exchange design and user configuration to include: Standardized public folders, mailbox size limitations, location of .pst files, database storage requirements and location, implementation of file servers with home directories, backup and restore procedures and naming conventions. Project is due to launch in two weeks at an off-site vendor location where I will work directly with team members and the vendor to install and standup Active Directory root servers for testing and deployment and installation of Exchange 2003 at the SMC’s. Upon completion of this phase, we will move to each Processing Element and migrate users to Active Directory and implement Exchange.
