Re-architected data extraction and synchronization subsystem to provide additional features and expandability. Assisted remote IT staffs with installation and configuration of Personal Oracle. Created scripts to clean data and improve quality.

Sr. Oracle Consultant at Trilegiant, responsible for off-hours support during the final stages of system implementation, including QA support, production implementation and data conversion. During this effort, reviewed initialization parameters, schema object settings, SQL performance and PL/SQL code. In each of these areas, recommendations were frequently implemented and resulted in improved application and database stability. Held several classes for the other DBAs and developers. The DBA classes covered SQL Tuning, Oracle Hints and an approach for developing optimal SQL. This effort required mostly non-standard work hours and I was frequently the sole DBA on site, which required quick understand of the in-house DBA procedures, server and database components, and the ability to work closely with developers without ongoing oversight.

Sr. Oracle Consultant at CheckFree, designed a Job Control system as a replacement for an existing mainframe system that is responsible for data translations. The new system is hosted on a Sun Solaris (UNIX) server, with ORACLE 8i as the database, and a 3-tier Web component for managing the system and data. The system was initially presented as a conceptual idea with several hardware and software components having been pre-selected. Working with the lead Translation Engineer and others, developed the formal system requirement, database design, application specifications and user interfaces. These topics were documented and presented at various phased to management for approval and continued support. The hardware, database and server components were developed in agreement with the design documentation with the code components being in PL/SQL, Java and ksh.

Sr. Oracle Consultant at Ultryx, added new capabilities and enhanced PL/SQL code for an Oracle 8.1.6 database supporting a web application. Rewrote several PL/SQL packages to use dynamic SQL, reducing the overall size of the code by 65%, resulting in improved maintainability. Implemented preliminary backup facility and mechanism for transporting production data to development and test servers. Reviewed table and index structure and implemented numerous indexes for improved application performance. Documented data model and database architecture for technology transfer to customer.

Consulting DBA at Metatec, providing mentoring and guidance to junior staff members. Evaluated the current infrastructure and capabilities of the ORACLE DBA. Reviewed the production and development activities to guide the development of a maintenance schedule and insure the DBA was comfortable with its implementation. Also guided the DBA during his evaluation of new systems requirements and mentored the DBA and application developers on application and SQL tuning. Worked with the DBA to install Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and Intelligent Agents in a three tier architecture to monitor production databases. The environment consists of a half dozen HP K-class servers running HP-UX 10.20 with a dozen ORACLE 8.0.5 instances.

Consulting DBA at Borden Chemical supporting MS SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0 for Intranet web applications. Responsible for designing data models, implementing SQL Server 7 data structures and Transact SQL procedures, control of documentation and application configuration.

Consulting Oracle Database Administrator at Qwest, participating in a variety of special projects, including the creation of a development environment, conversion of the production instance default optimizer mode from 'rule' to 'choose', evaluation of several Oracle8i features such as Transportable Tablespaces and Log Miner, tuning of a significant number of application SQL queries, and general support of business needs, including evaluation and initial configuration of Oracle Discoverer.
