Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) telecommunication circuits and equipment for the Army SWA TNOSC (South West Asia Theater Network Operations and Security Center). Validate customer Requests for Service (RFSs) and process Telecommunication Service Request (TSRs). Maintain circuit activations records and RFS tracking database. Coordinate implementation of circuits and ensure acceptance in accordance with DISA directives. Analyze trends and recommend solutions to avert communications failures. Manipulate existing infrastructure to ensure efficient use of resources. Maintain accurate theater level network diagrams.
After five and a half years working in a hostile region, my wife and I took off two years from work to catch up on lost time with family and friends before embarking on a Trans Africa Expedition with www.oasisoverland.com visiting 30 countries in 10 months. Provided planning, engineering, and technical support for all Army strategic voice systems in Iraq at 14 bases. Collected, compiled and analyzed switch reports to provide solutions and recommendations for improving and maintaining quality Defense Switched Network (DSN) service. Conducted site assessments and provided recommendations for transitioning tactical installations to approved strategic facilities for reliable voice communications and expansion capability. Engineered approved solutions interface voice trunks and digit translations between NORTEL, REDCOM, AVAYA, and CISCO voice systems via ATM, SATCOM, Promina, and LAN/WAN transport. Created DIACAP connectivity diagrams in certification and accreditation packages for approval of voice network solutions. Assisted switch technicians with high-level troubleshooting.
Supervised the Regional Network Operations and Security Center (RNOSC) and provided technical and operational support to manage and maintain situational awareness of the Army strategic communications infrastructure within the Iraq. Provided a single point of coordination for communications connectivity, outage response, HAZCONs or events affecting systems and networks, and processed requests for Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs). Assisted in securing networks and ensured government standards of command and control information security protection measures were maintained. Compiled trend analysis data and recommended improvements to network reliability and performance.
Supervised five facilities and 14 personnel in the Kabul area. Configured and maintained Promina multiplexers, NRZ/CDI converters, Canoga Perkins fiber modems, communication analyzers, and GPS Time and Frequency Receivers. Maintained and accounted for KYK-13, AN/CYZ-10, KIV-7, KIV-19, KG-95 COMSEC equipment. Assisted customers and colleagues in configuration and troubleshooting of REDCOM IGX switch, JWICS data circuits, DRSN telephone circuits, TSSR and Alcatel DS3 microwave radio systems, NIPR/SIPR Cisco routers, Tandberg/Polycom VTC suites, and cable fabrication and installation. Additional responsibilities included reporting of work center and circuit status, conducting trend analysis, processing of TSOs and trouble tickets, generation of circuit diagrams, preventive maintenance, and conducting employee training and mentoring.
Provided technical support to Headquarters United States European Command (USEUCOM) with Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications Systems (JWICS) secure Video Teleconference (VTC) and data communications. Installed, configured and operated voice and video circuitry and equipment to include Cisco routers, Promina 800 multiplexer, Tandberg and V-Tel video conference suites, PictureTel Montage and Polycom Accord voice/video switching devices, various modems, AN/CYZ-10, KOI-18, KYK-13, KG-84, KG-194, KIV-7, and KIV-19 encryption devices. Performed troubleshooting as required and generated circuit related reports and diagrams.
Supported Headquarters United States Amy Europe (USAREUR) with secure and non-secure voice communications. Responsible for the operation and troubleshooting of two Digital Small Switches (DSS-1), an IDNX 20 multiplexer, AN/CYZ-10, KG-194, KIV-7, and over 30 voice circuits and interface equipment. Stood in as temporary facility supervisor for three months. Generated weekly reports and circuit diagrams, conducted training and mentoring of new employees, provided user level equipment training, and oversaw all operational aspects of the workplace.
Provided the Headquarters United States European Command (EUCOM) with secure and non-secure voice communications. Operated and maintained two Digital Small Switches (DSS-1), two Remote Switching Units (RSU), IDNX 20 multiplexer, associated COMSEC devices, and over 200 telephone related circuits. Supervised the installation and operation of an AN/TTC-48 (Small Extension Node) and AN/TTC 47 (Node Center Switch); provided secure and non-secure voice/data communications to Combined Forces Command and the 8Th U.S. Army, 1st Armored Division Forward Command Post, Operation Joint Guard in Bosnia, and Task Force Falcon in Kosovo (two deployments of six months each); Company COMSEC Custodian responsible for safeguarding and issuing company COMSEC material and operating KYK-13, KYX-15, KG-194 COMSEC devices.
