Designed and implemented all back-end processes for a sophisticated,
custom-developed donor management system.
The system uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and .Net applications using
Visual Studio 2008 and 2010. Provided
project management and release planning for the frequent product upgrades.

Implemented hundreds of stored procedures and dozens
of Data Transformation Services (DTS) packages to automate routine tasks:

Designed and implemented a sophisticated workflow
system using .Net 4.0, Workflow Foundation and WCF web services.
·
Designed and implemented a flexible electronic
payment processing sub-system.
Interfaces to virtually any payment processor. Includes settlement and reconciliation
processes.

Developed a multi-tier organizational structure to
support multiple physical and virtual international business units. This allows for each unit to define separate
business rules such as product prices, receipt format and content, payment
processors, etc. Managed the conversion
of the Canadian office to the new system.

Implemented a web-based application that gives
supporters real-time access to their account information. Developed a set of COM objects that the web

Integrated a mail-scanning system to process
incoming mail correspondence. Reduced
response time from 3-4 weeks to next-day turn around with 18 fewer staff.

Developed the next generation of Retail software, code named ‘Fuji’,
designed to replace in-store servers with large, centrally located server
farms. Defined the R&D Proof of
Concept areas to be investigated and the specific tasks to be performed in
Phase 1. Developed proposed solutions
for several key areas:
- State Persistence - Developed a state
persistence engine using XML nodes and memory-mapped files. Retrieve and save time dropped from 400
to under 5 milliseconds.
- Application Architecture – New
architecture defined that supports custom data and significantly reduces
server roundtrips
- Mockup Implementation Model – Developed
an implementation approach using C++/ATL with a single COM object and
multiple implementation classes supporting a rich set of interfaces.

As part of ICL’s global alliance with Microsoft, several key technology
areas were defined and a manager assigned to each to foster dissemination of
information between the companies and to provide a single point of contact to
ensure the most effective application of that technology. As the Technology Manager for Microsoft’s
Component Object Model (COM):
- Chaired the Component Object Model (COM)
Special Interest Group
- Monitored Microsoft technologies and
disseminated this information throughout ICL
- Provided tactical assistance to critical strategic
projects
- Acted as a catalyst for change, developing
policies and standards
- Presented Microsoft’s Developers Day in
Edinburgh, Scotland
As the only member of the
Alliance Programme in the US, oversaw the construction of the new office
facilities near Seattle, Washington.
Responsible for installing phone systems, WAN, videoconference and lab

Defined the next generation
of retail software solution. The
resulting product, Retail Application Framework Technology (RAFT) and the
encompassing solution, GlobalSTORE has won numerous Microsoft developer
awards. RAFT is based on a large
collection of nearly 1,000 C++ components and 1,000,000 lines of code, which
provide Point-of-Sale business rules.
The front-end GUI applications are then developed using Visual
Basic. Retailers on 6 continents use
RAFT and GlobalSTORE across nearly every retail segment.
- Defined the overall system architecture
- Created the CASE tool used to model and
implement the components
- Designed the RAFT components and implemented
many of them
- Designed and managed the development of the
Inventory system that was added later
