Project details:

Project name: MULTIPLICATIVE ALGEBRAIC RECONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE FOR 3D CONE BEAM CT OF BREAST

Role of the project: Detect the breast tumor non-invasively and overcome the difficulties associated with mammography.
Tool used: matlab 6.

Project description:

Breast cancer is a common type of cancer, which affects women all over the world. Mammography is the basic imaging tool for detection of tumor in the breast. In the Year 2002 a scientist name McCartney has proposed a system, which uses the principle of CT.What we have done is with the help of McCartney’s theory and a phantom (Imaginary 3D object with assuming the same characteristics as breast) . We developed a program based on siddon’s algorithm of ray tracing (The program is written in matlab) .A system geometry proposed by McCartney gives the number of projection of phantom. To reconstruct the image, we used multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique, which is based on iterative method.With 20 projections and 1 iteration, we can see that the reconstructed image of phantom is 90 percent good. SO if we work further on this project and by using different ray tracing algorithm we may have 99% good reconstructed image of phantom.
