Project : Implementation of Ogg Decoder on
a C5x Processor
Objective : This project aims on
implementation of Ogg decoder on a C5x DSP processor. Ogg is an audio file just
like wma, dat etc. TMS640C5x is a fixed point processor. The source code for
ogg decoder given in floating point format was converted into fixed point
format and successfully ported it on C5x DSP. The source code was in C
language. Our source code takes .ogg file as an input and converts it into .wma
format.

IPolicy Networks Limited through Campus placement conducted in BITS PILANI in
January 2005.
IPolicy Networks
is a product based network security company which is trying to increase its
customer base by adding a new feature called inline-antivirus in the next
release in its product. The product developed by Ipolicy supports prevention
form IDS (Intrusion Detection System) attacks, Blocking URLs(called
URL filtering), applying firewalls, antivirus etc. All these are
supported by a single box called Ipolicy’s Intrusion Prevention Firewall(IPF).This
product can be used by big service providers and also medium or small
enterprises. The product are IPF 6000 series, IPF 4000 series, IPF 3000 series.
The biggest
customers of Ipolicy is AT&T(Bell Laboratories,USA), Netone, Network
Associates etc,
1. I have done a
project on implementation of APIs(Application Program Interface) for the Inline
Anti-Virus Project, the biggest project undergoing in the company. The APIs
that are part of my project are Audit Logging and Quarantining. The project is
done in C++.
Audit Logging: Whenever a mail sent
across antivirus application, the audit logging feature keeps track of whether
the mail has been sent properly, dropped due to virus attack or is sent after
removing virus. The information regarding the status is written in a separate
file.(just like logs).These audit-log files (log files) are compressed after
the size of the file becomes more than 1MB. And there is the another
functionality of sending the compressed audit-log files to ftp server
configured by the administrator.
Quarantining: Quarantining feature
allows the administrator to keep track(see the mail) of mail if the mail is
dropped by any antivirus action. Suppose if a mail was dropped due to virus
present in it. The dropped mail can be seen by the administrator. While
scanning of mail takes place, if a virus is detected by the
application(antivirus) and if quarantining feature is enabled by the
administrator, then the mail will automatically be moved to a specified folder
set by the administrator In this way, all the dropped mails(even mails sent can
also be stored if this option is enabled) can be stored in a separate folder
and can be seen whenever needed. Similar to audit logging, all the quarantined
files are compressed and sent to ftp servers at regular intervals specified by
the administrator. The files are compressed and sent to ftp server periodically
because of memory constraints(size in bytes). The disk may run out of space.
The main objective of compressing and
sending the files to ftp server is to ensure that the system does not run out
of space and crash.
2. Worked on
SMTP, POP3 mail protocols which are used for sending and retrieving mails
respectively. Have very good understanding of SMTP commands like HELO,EHLO,
MAIL FROM,RCPT T0,DATA etc. and POP3 commands like USER,PASS,RETR,LIST etc.
3. Worked on
WINMAIL,MERCURY, XMAIL mail servers for the testing of mail protocols SMTP,
POP3 for the inline-antivirus feature.
4. Worked on HTTP protocol used in antivirus
project for blocking the URLs.
5. Have good
understanding of HTTP,TCP/IP protocols.
Fixed customer
bugs of inline antivirus.
Presently doing
coding for CLI (Command Line Interface) commands for the antivirus module.
Worked on Scan-rate
module for checking the number of mails that can be sent in one minute. If
scan-rate exceeds then drop the mail.
Worked on RTD(Real
Time Data) for maintaining the counters for number of mails sent, number
dropped, quarantined, rejected etc.
Worked on Statistics
module for antivirus module
Have good
proficiency in debugging tools like GDB,etc.
Currently payed INR 3 lakh per annum.
