PROJECT  DETAILS

1) Design of drill Jig for stay flat component used in brake system :

                            This project includes designing a drill jig for the stay flat component. This was done to tackle the mis-alignment problem that was existing in the assembly. Drill Jig with the forming tool will eliminate the pitch variances in the Stay Flat component and their by increasing the productivity. Jig are special tools, that each tool is generally designed and built specifically for making one part with only one operation on that part. Their main purpose is to locate and hold the work piece, giving correct orientation with respect to the tool and working parts of  the machine as well as for properly guiding the cutting tools.

2) Process capability analysis of Axle Box:

                           This project is based on the theme of “Deming’s Circle” and the quality control tools are used. The project is aimed at achieving capability of the selected process. The process capability of “Axle Box” is established from the existing process. It is seen that many parts do not fall within the required specification limits.

So process capability Analysis is used to measure the probability that a process can achieve some desired characteristics. The very aim of process quality control is that of establishing a control over the manufacturing process, then manufacturing in that state of control over a period.

3) Analysis of Lathe Spindle:

               Machine tools can remain efficient for long periods if wear of their main units is kept to a minimum, which can be achieved by good design, use of wear resistant coatings, etc/. It is important to choose optimum initial clearances in the units and take into account the various factors, which improves accuracy. The spindle is usually large diameter to resist bending and it should be perfectly aligned to lathe axis and accurately machined for producing true work surface. An effort has been made in this project, to find the stresses, generated on the spindle, due its rotation at very high speed by using ANSYS package. Some remedial measures are also illustrated.
