Project done in BE
: ENERGY SAVING DURING NON-ROLLING HOURS
DESCRIPTION
Project Name : Energy saving during non-hours at Medium
Merchant Structural Mill (MMSM) in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Client : Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Duration : 3 months
Environment :
Power
Electronics, D.c motor
Description :
In MMSM, 11 numbers of
1700KW and 9 numbers of 1000KW main DC motor drives are installed to run the
mill stands. When mill is in rolling period, the motors will be running at
Field Weakening Mode depending on the speed required for the profile being
rolled. However, when the mill is stopped, the drive is kept ready for
running at its full rated field current. So it was observed that operating
the drive at full rated field current during non-rolling hours is leading to
Energy Wastage. So with modified Thyristor Converter Control Circuit of DC
drives and some hardware connections are modified for reducing field current
to 25 % of its rated value during non-rolling hours has resulted in
Electrical Energy Saving.
